THE GOSPEL STORY

Senior Thesis / William Paterson University

THE PROCESS

I created the Architecture of each Piece using an abstract, geometric illustration style. after the composition was where i wanted it, I separated each layer into Shades of Black and white, after this I stripped away the Line-work and started to experiment with color, and after many iterations and once I felt they were where I wanted them to be, I went in and colored each tessellation to create a more dynamic Image as well as give each piece a sense of volume and depth.

INSPIRATION

I took inspiration from several different sources. For the Geometric Style and Vivid colors, I looked to artist Charis Tsevis, who uses strong colors and his geometrics style to depict motion, energy and emotion in powerful ways. I also took inspiration from Edward Knippers, a painter who uses his own form of geometric abstraction to visualize the Holy Spirit and God.

As for the story telling nature of the series, I was heavily inspired by Stain Glass Windows, and art form that has been around for centuries and one that is deeply tied to religious art and storytelling. In a similar way, Tryptich’s and their ability to tell a multi-part story consisting of several separate pieces that come together to form a storyline
